There are times in our lives when we just have no clue what is going on. We feel that we are where we are for a purpose, but only God knows what that purpose is. If you’ve never been there before, believe me, one day it’ll hit you and you’ll think to yourself “Why can’t I see out of this hole? Please, somebody, anybody, grab my hand and pull me out!” But then there’s that voice that not everyone hears saying “If you would just reach out, I would take your hand and get you.”
And that’s God.
He waits for us, gives us the chance to realize we can’t do it on our own. That was me today, finally reaching out.
A few weeks ago as I was teaching Sunday school, the lesson was a review of all lessons we had gone over already this year. My curriculum is pretty easy to follow and branch off of where God leads the discussion. (And with 3rd-5th graders, that’s a rabbit trail waiting to happen) But, anyhow, we started talking and drawing about the different people in the Old Testament. Each one was given a chance. A chance to plunge forward and do what their flesh made self wanted or trust in God’s provision and strength. If you’ve read the Old Testament at all, you know not everyone trusted the first time around. Trial and error. Guess what?! Trusting God got them a lot further in whatever area they were working in.
Fast forward to last night. I started a devotional on my bible app, I heard a verse on the radio today. I saw a verse posted on a friends Facebook page today. I heard a song. All of these things reminding me to put my trust soley in Him.
(Note, I said reminding me, it was something I already knew to do but God leaves us gentle love notes pursuing us towards Him and guiding us back to His plan, if we only pause long enough to hear the message.)
So, I broke down. Right there in the truck on my way home. My son watched me as I bawled my eyes out and prayed aloud. I could see the concern in his eyes for his mama, but he didn’t seem worried. It was like he knew who I was talking to and he was just there to be my “where one or more are gathered” partner.
I reached out on Facebook tonight for more prayers. I have a much lighter heart tonight as I lay down to rest knowing I am covered in prayer. God answers all prayers. I understand it can be a yes, a no, or a not now. But I now have peace in the waiting…. Thank you my friends who are praying and believing with me. God gives us all a chance to trust Him, we simply have to have the faith to reach out and hold on knowing He will pull us from the hole.
